The Australian Medical Council (the AMC) is responsible for accrediting education providers and their programs of study for the medical profession.
The AMC assesses programs of study in acupuncture against the approved accreditation standards.
Accreditation standards take effect on the day that they are published on the Board’s website or a later date stated in the standard.
Medical practitioners who wish to use the title “acupuncturist” must have their registration endorsed for acupuncture by the Medical Board of Australia (the Board) or be registered by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia.
The AMC provides accreditation reports to the Board on the programs of study it has accredited. The Board may then approve, or refuse to approve, the accredited program of study as providing a qualification for the purposes of endorsement of registration. An approval may be granted subject to conditions.
