The information that appears on the Register of medical practitioners will soon change for some medical practitioners.
This will affect medical practitioners with only specialist registration (i.e. without general registration), who transitioned to the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) in 2010 with conditions previously imposed solely because of holding only specialist registration. These conditions will be removed.
The conditions reflect local legislation before the National Scheme began and restrict the practitioner to a particular area of practice. As this cohort only holds specialist registration, their scope of practice is already defined to their specialty area, and the conditions are not necessary. This does not affect a practitioner’s practice in any way.
The changes bring greater consistency to how information is shown on the Register of medical practitioners nationally.
